E4U3. Un año de intercambio - 5/20/2019

Notes for sub:

• Spanish 4 - 90m class - P5, P6, P8 in room B-48.  Prep P7 in B-50 (ask Nick Verbon for desk and student lists).

Students will work independently, with partners and in groups today, but they will need your help with timing.

• there are 5 binders labeled Spanish 3-4 behind the teacher's desk, in the grey rolling cabinet. Please, please place a binder per table. Students can use the printed vocabulary for review on the table. 
• Each 25 minutes, asks students help to read the following activities aloud as a transition from one activity to another. Announce time each 10, and 5 minutes before the end of each activity so they learn to regulate it. 
• Students may use their cellphones for practicing vocabulary, but please, remind them not to text, and to have one ear available at all times. They shouldn't be in their phones all the time, just to practice the vocabulary quizlets, then they need to talk to different people to practice. 
• 5 minutes before the class is over, have them clean up and organize everything. 

Here is the plan that students are going to help you read aloud (after they also write the date and objectives in their notebooks). Remind them to open the student guide to access the quizlets in their phones. If someone doesn't have a phone, they can partner up with a peer to practice.

Objetivos

• Puedo preguntar sobre el tiempo y la moda local
• Puedo tener una conversación formal sin leer

Profe Trujillo is sick and won’t be in today. Please, help the sub with reading the date and objectives. 

Today, I’d like you to be practice and master three things: the formal conversation vocabulary, weather and fashion vocabulary. Remember the quizlet have a “speaker” you can click if you are unsure how to pronounce a term. Please, focus on things that are challenging for you (write sentences, practice different tenses, focus on “understanding speakers with different levels of fluency” in the class, etc).

You may use your cellphones to practice the quizlets for a bit, but remember that you can create games or stories with a partner or with your group. But please, keep social media off. If you are going to listen to music while you practice, please, have one ear available.

Please, don’t use the cellphone the entire class, talk to people around you, put your skills to practice. 

Please, help one another so everyone can be successful.

Actividad 1: conversación formal - the main objective is for you to have a formal conversation pretending to be the exchange student and later the host with different people in the classroom. To do this, you need to practice first. We are aiming for natural conversation, please practice this quizlet for 20 minutes:

• Review quizlet 20m: write 5 new challenging things/ sentences/questions from this quizlet in your notebook. (Annotate what is challenging, it could be pronunciation, etc)
• Play quizlet games & test your knowledge typing: 
• Practice with real people around the class without reading the questions (talk to 2 people at least). After, annotate what part of the conversation are still a challenge for you, then practice them again with the quizlet.

Activity 2: the local weather. The objective is to ask what the local weather usually is in different seasons, so you can plan the clothes you need to take with you. To do that, you need to know the vocabulary, and then research in Spanish what the weather is in real life in the country/region you chose in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.  After, you should be ready to ask 2 new people around the room what the weather is like in their chosen countries.

In addition, in this section, you will learn the boot verb “soler” which is used to talk about things we usually do (see the quizlet)

• Review quizlet 15 m: write 5 new challenging things/ sentences/questions from this quizlet in your notebook. (Annotate what is challenging, it could be pronunciation, etc)
• Play quizlet games & test your knowledge typing: 5m
• Google in spanish: ¿qué tiempo hace en  (the country/region) en (type 4 different months) to get the information in Spanish. Annotate in your notebook, the average temperature in Centígrados and F
• Practice with real people around the class without reading the questions (talk to 2 people at least). After, annotate what part of the conversation are still a challenge for you, then practice them again with the quizlet.

Actividad 3: la moda local. 

• La ropa de primavera - learn 5 new words for each list. Annotate them in your notebook. If you already know them all, them help others with pronunciation, and practice (quiz them).
• La ropa de verano
• La ropa de otoño
• La ropa de invierno

In this activity, you want to review clothing vocabulary, then look at the local fashion by googling “la moda en (the country/region)”. You want to look at different pictures, and the “usual” weather to talk about the local fashion. 

Please, use “la gente suele llevar” (people usually wear) to describe it. You want to annotate what differences and commonalities you see between your culture and that of the people of the country you chose as part of the evidence, use the vocabulary you learn, and try to write it in Spanish.

Next Thursday we will practice the same vocabulary, and we will practice routine verbs.
